Policy and Legislation
Heart of the Lakes is the policy voice for Michigan’s land conservancies. Core to our mission, Heart of the Lakes works to educate state and federal policymakers on issues critical to land conservancies. Through policy research and outreach, we help to shape and advocate for sound policies that advance land conservation in Michigan.
Heart of the Lakes supports policies that:
Maintain and strengthen land conservation in the private and public sector
Support and protect the Constitutional mandate of the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund to acquire and develop lands for resource protection and public outdoor recreation
Protect current and create new revenue streams dedicated to the conservation, protection and management of Michigan’s natural resources
Mitigate threats to Michigan’s land and waters
