The Advancing Conservancy Excellence (ACE) program is pleased to offer an exceptional online training taught by noted conservation attorney Jane Ellen Hamilton.

This in-depth training is a 4-week session on Drafting Easements for Perpetuity, and is specially modified for Michigan land conservancies and their land conservancy staff, volunteers and board members. Because it is interactive, it is applicable for all levels of experience and ACE participants are strongly encouraged to attend.

Beginning February 11, Jane Ellen, who wrote the book on drafting easements and is a well-regarded industry expert, will share best practices in drafting easements. Whether you want to learn more or make certain the easements you write will last, this course is for you.

Sign up today to learn:

  • How to draft conservation easements to ensure legal provisions will stand the test of time and to ensure language for prohibited actions and reserved rights will protect the conservation values of the property

  • Drafting tips to assure each easement meets the requirements of Land Trust Standards and Practices as well as the requirements of state and federal laws affecting conservation easements

  • How each easement explains the public benefit it confers and how it meets the “conservation purposes” test of the Internal Revenue Code

  • How to assure that your land trust does not accept a conservation easement that exceeds its capacity to monitor and enforce over time.

  • How to follow project planning decisions made during the process described in Standards and Practices 8G
