Heart of the Lakes Center for Land Conservation Policy is a statewide organization that concentrates and strengthens the efforts of Michigan’s land conservation community. Founded by Michigan’s leading land conservancies, Heart of the Lakes does what no individual land conservancy can do on its own-- unites them under the common goal of protecting Michigan’s critical land. Heart of the Lakes partners with our member land conservancies, policy makers, and leading conservation organizations across the state to champion our common goal of increasing the pace and quality of Michigan land protection.

Conservancy Services
Heart of the Lakes advances the vital work of Michigan’s land conservancies through services that strengthen their effectiveness. Our Advancing Conservancy Excellence (ACE) program and helpful tools such as our Conservancy Clearinghouse and Service Providers Directory combined with training, networking opportunities and timely communications created by Heart of the Lakes help conservancies protect more of the Michigan lands we love.
Policy and Legislation
Heart of the Lakes is the policy voice for Michigan’s land conservancies. Core to our mission, Heart of the Lakes works to educate state and federal policymakers on issues critical to land conservancies. Through policy research and outreach, we help to shape and advocate for sound policies that advance land conservation in Michigan.
Heart of the Lakes Resources
Through research and various partnerships Heart of the Lakes has developed multiple resources to both make the case for land conservation in Michigan as well as support the critical work begin done by our member land conservancies.
