How do you introduce the topic of estate planning with landowners or other donors to your conservancy? What working knowledge about tax issues do you need to have? What are the implications of donating a conservation easement or fee land by will? Using hypothetical situations to test your estate planning acumen, these are just some of the questions that Ellen Fred will answer on the next Ask An Attorney call. Ellen’s legal practice includes various areas of real estate and tax law, focusing primarily on land conservation transactions and nonprofit tax issues.

How to participate: The Ask An Attorney conference call is available to representatives of all Michigan land conservancies and their conservation partners. Please register by Monday October 11. Call-in number, pass code, call-in protocol and other instructions will be provided once you’ve signed up. Please note that the call-in number is NOT toll-free. For the reasonable cost of a long distance call or 60 cell phone minutes, you’ll have access to some of best conservation legal expertise in Michigan.
